Raw for 30
9 min - Jun 1, 2006Six McDonalds-munching Americans eat 100% vegan live foods for a month. Medical results are fantastic. Doctors and experts are interviewed including Gabriel Cousens, MD and David Wolfe.
Raw for 30-Days
Raw for 30-Days will document the journey of five Americans suffering from Adult Onset Type II Diabetes, who undergo a radical 30-day diet and lifestyle change in the hope of reversing or reducing their insulin dependence. The film will show the eating habits that led to the development of this disease and will posit an alternative approach to living and eating, one in which foods can heal and hold the potential to reverse Diabetes. We will recruit subjects who have been subsisting on a standard American junk food diet and who are now insulin dependent and Diabetic. Those selected will journey to the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Arizona to undergo a 30-day health regimen consisting of 100% raw organic living foods that are purported to heal Diabetes. We will select a diverse group of subjects, representative of the different segments of the population most affected by this epidemic. Examples include a Native American from a Reservation, an African American from an urban Northeast city, a Mexican American living in the western US and a Caucasian person from the mid-west or a Southern city such as Chattanooga, TN.

1 min - Nov 12, 2007How Blood Sugar Works
During the digestive process, much of the food that is eaten is converted into glucose, commonly known as blood sugar. Glucose circulates in the bloodstream and is used as food for the body's cells. But the cells cannot absorb glucose alone. A hormone called insulin, which is produced in the pancreas, must first bind to the cell surface. When this occurs, cells of the body are activated and are able to absorb the glucose. This process returns the body's blood sugar to a normal level.
What Is Diabetes?
Diabetes mellitus is a disorder that affects the body's ability to efficiently utilize blood glucose. In Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, so glucose cannot be absorbed to refuel the cells. In Type 2 diabetes, insulin is produced, but it does not work properly and the glucose is not absorbed consistently by the cells.
Effects of Diabetes
Both types of diabetes have the same results: glucose is not absorbed by the cells. That is why people with diabetes have high blood sugar levels. Without proper absorption of glucose from the bloodstream, the cells are starving for food. Regardless of which type of diabetes a person may have, people with diabetes must monitor their blood sugar levels. Depending on the type and severity of the disease, diabetes can be managed with diet or with medication.

Not too long ago, George Bush vetoed his first bill after 5, 1/2 years of serving for our country as president. The bill he vetoed did not allow stem cell research to be funded properly by the government, while the many millions of people like me could be cured from the research. His main reasons for vetoing the bill had to do with cloning, and us being a Christian country. Following this announcement, George Bush recieved a standing ovation. None of the new canidates have spoken about stem cell research except Ron Paul, and he disagreed to fund the research.
I am 15 years old. I have had Diabetes for 10 years, and this comming March of 2008 will be my 11th. year. Diabetes is more than just a life threatening disease. It's you're life... period.
But there is hope. The JDRF (Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation) holds a Walk-to-Cure-Diabetes every year in Siesta Key Beach, Florida. They raise millions of dollars a year and span to over 200 locations around the Earth. Diabetes can be cured across America with proper funding from organizations, the government, and people like you.
This is also a video to all of our current canidates running for the title of the 44th. US president. Diabetes accounts for 7% of the population of your country. What will you do to help the disease? What are your plans for funding stem cell research? Why?

1 min - Oct 18, 2006The hormone leptin regulates appetite to keep body weight in check, but University of Florida research shows leptin may also combat adult-onset diabetes.
Researchers fed lab animals the same kind of high calorie diet that can trigger the production of more insulin and boost the risk of diabetes in humans. Using leptin gene therapy, UF neuroscientist Satya Kalra and his team prevented type two diabetes in the animals.
Kalra: “We were successful in keeping the blood levels of insulin low and at the same time keeping the blood glucose levels at a normal stage. In other words, we were able to correct diabetes in these animals under various challenges.”
Experts say the research could lead to new treatments for people with diabetes, through therapies that mimic the effects of leptin.
Kalra: “Until now there was no evidence that the leptin action in the hypothalamus has a control on insulin secretion. So this is totally unexpected and we’re quite excited about it; that we’re discovering a new site of action of leptin.”
As an extra benefit, the animals receiving leptin therapy lived longer than those who didn’t get it.
