Be aware that there are certain foods that can get into the bloodstream more quickly than the others, so if you eat or drink these types of foods, it can skew the results. Thus, you must not take any food for several hours prior to doing one. Getting accurate blood sugar levels is important because this will help your doctor determine what kind of medication to prescribe.

Adult onset or type 2 diabetes is the most common type. This condition is typically controlled with oral medication. People with type 2 are able to produce insulin but the cell tissues are unable to effectively use the insulin for breaking down glucose and converting it into energy. As a result, the glucose remains in the bloodstream. By taking a test, diabetics can get the proper treatment.

Other symptoms of the condition include constant fatigue, frequent urination, constant thirst and blurred vision. People who have a history of diabetes in their family are often ordered by their doctors to have an examination.
