Diabetes is spreading at near epidemic proportions in the U.S. with 21 million victims and throughout the world nearly 240 million victims. Those
numbers are dwarfed by those who have pre diabetes and don't know it.
It is estimated that approximately 41-54 million Americans have pre-diabetes.
Pre-diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet at Diabetic disease levels.
Here's the most common scenario. In a
typical life cycle of an adult as they age they become more affluent and generally speaking less active. They tend to eat more convenience foods. They tend to gain
weight. Nearly 30 % of Americans in a recent report are obese.
So that is the bad news. THE GOOD NEWS IS TYPE 2 DIABETES IS COMPLETELY
AVOIDABLE. Here's how.
There is more than just a casual correlation between being overweight and diabetes. Being overweight causes Diabetes. It is
relatively simple.
As you get older and approach your mid to late 40's your metabolism starts slowing down. You are nearing the peak of your earning
potential. As you earn more money you spend more on unhealthy eating options-convenience foods. You become less active especially as your kids, if any, get older.
AND YOU START GAINING WEIGHT.
This puts you at risk for being a type 2 diabetic something you do not want. Especially if you are at risk with a history
of Diabetes in your family, stay active and watch your diet.
Exercise regularly at least 30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week, maintain a healthy weight and
watch what you eat.
That is how to avoid the 'BIG D.'
If you don't, you will get Diabetes and your life will be changed forever. It is much easier to
avoid this dreaded disease than it is to get control of it after the fact.
